During the first wave of COVID in 2020, we started off with an idea to democratize education. The underlying thought was simple: how do people who do not speak English take those amazing free open courses by Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, etc.
Of course, we could get volunteers to dub them (like TED), but that solution was time-consuming, involved a lot of coordination, relied on people’s goodwill, and definitely not scalable. This is why we decided to solve this using technology. What started as an education democratization project has evolved into India's leading speech AI company, serving over 2M users globally.
In our effort to expand our warchest for large scale AI training we got our own in-house GPU rig. We call this Tomahawk.
In 2024, Dubverse achieved several major milestones. Our webapp crossed 2M+ active users, marking significant growth from our initial launch. We developed and deployed industry-leading TTS models for Indian languages, establishing our position as the pioneer in low-resource language AI. Most notably, our technology went live on Netflix, providing dubbing solutions for their content, marking our entry into premium entertainment services.
Let the GPUs go brrrr
Along this journey we realised that the core of this problem is generative speech(TTS) - highly emotive, covering all languages, best in class and in your own voice.
Since startups are marathons and all problems can be solved if broken down, we broke this down into 3 chapters.
